Ballpark and sibling bonding

11:40 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 – Scott’s house, Castro, San Francisco

Never made it to Haight-Ashbury yesterday (Scott said it is way over-rated though I’m still determined to go), but I did take the MUNI to the China Basin to see the Ballpark (or AT&T Stadium by its stupid corporate name). It’s an impressive park, right on the edge of the San Francisco Bay so that many of the four-baggers plop into the water rather than on the street.

After circumnavigating the stadium and spending some time “Sittin on the dock of the bay,” I met up with Scott after he got out of work a few blocks away from the park. We walked a few miles to a pub called Rickhouse, a warm and intimate place that was super crowded but has great local beer. We met Tara there, and the three of us embarked on a great conversational journey—where Scott and I learned way more about each other’s love lives than we were prepared for, and certainly without a few drinks under our belts we never would have survived.

Still, it was a great brother-sister moment. We were more comfortable than we had ever been as peers, but Scott was still trying to be the good older brother and impart advice upon his only sister. He consummated the occasion by ordering a shot of bourbon for each of us (which the bartender provided for free we later realized) and saying a solemn speech about leading a healthy lifestyle, complete with giggling interjections from Tara and me. We capped off the night with a late dinner from a burger place across the street, and then made our way home.

  1. Your writing style is delightfully verbose and pleasantly conversational. But you know I like it already.

I'm glad your Gonzo Journey has finally begun.
